Welcome to the Second Historically Accurate Game Jam!

The 3rd Historically Accurate Game Jam: https://itch.io/jam/historically-accurate-3

If you submit to Mini Jam 51: Rome you can continue your game and submit an updated version to the jam.

Join the Community Discord server where you can team up, chat and share your progress, when the jam starts.

The past is a really interesting thing, and games allow us to portray it in a way traditional media simply doesn't let you. Games allow you to interact openly and fluidly with the past, engaging you in an easily accessible way books, films and even podcasts (my art form of choice) fail to fully provide.

This game jam is hosted by me, Henry. I'm the creator of the History of the British Isles podcast and fan of game development, as well as playing games. I want to encourage people to make something unique and help immerse people in the past, and try to help spur a further consideration of history within the games industry. Not to mention, history-themed game development blends my two main passions together: history and coding.

Rules:

  1. Please do not use any premade code: premade assets are fine as long as they're free and you give credit!
  2. Please try to stick to the theme!
  3. Please do not start making your game till the jam has begun! It's not fair on the rest of the people and might not be as fun for you.

FAQ

Who can enter? Anyone. You don't need much experience. Give it a shot!

How will my game be judged? Well, we'll be using the same system as last time. The categories are as follows:

  • Historical Accuracy
  • Gameplay
  • Audio
  • Graphics
  • Feel
  • Thematic Relevancy

Your game will also receive an overall ranking.

How much effort should I put in? Don't be like me in the first jam and overwork yourself on an overly ambitious idea. Put in whatever effort it takes, but scale your project to the time allotted and make sure to have enough free time! I'm not going to stop you from going all out if that's what you want to do, however.

What game engines am I allowed to use? All game engines are allowed!
